Governors
The Willows Catholic Primary School is a voluntary-aided school within the Catholic Diocese of Lancaster. As a voluntary-aided school, foundation governors must always form a majority of the governing body. Governors are a voluntary body of people who guide and support the strategic direction of the school. They are members of the school team and their contribution to the running of the school is highly valued.
Instrument of Governance
The Governing Body shall consist of:
- 7 Foundation Governors
- 2 Parent Governors
- 1 Staff Governor
- 1 Headteacher
- 1 Co-opted Governor
The role of the governing body is a strategic one, its key functions are to:
- Set the aims and objectives for the school
- Set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
- Set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
- Monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
- Be a source of challenge and support to the headteacher (a critical friend)

Foundation Governors
Foundation Governors are practising Catholics who are usually members of the Parish of The Holy Cross and appointed by the Bishop.
The core roles of Foundation Governors are :
- Representing our Bishop as keepers of the Catholic vision
- Ensuring the quality of Curriculum RE and Catholic Life of the school
- Understanding and preparing for Section 48 Inspections
- Encouraging the vibrancy and wellbeing of their school community
